GOOD Dealers And Experiences

As far as the dealer I bought mine from, they were friendly enough when I was buying my bike. HD service? Well you wanted positive input and I'm sorry but I cannot give you any. I believe this first HD I've purchased will be my last. Sorry!:(
 
Heart of Dixie HD in Pelham Alabama was great to me whe I purchased my
2009 Road King. Salepersons were very friendly and polite. They did not push
or try to rush me into any deal. Could answer any question. Took the time to introduce me to the service department people, the parts sales people. Took me on a tour of the whole place. They treated my wife and I like we were family.
They still call and check and see if there is anything they can help me with as far as the bike goes, I will not buy from any where else...

Over the last few weeks I have noticed the stereo (sp) would turn on but I got no sound until I was rolling. This has progressivley gotten worse. Yesterday I was at Space Coast HD in Palm Bay, Fl looking for a tank bra. (not available for the 08-09 yet) I walked back to service and mentioned what was going on. They were outside looking at it in minutes. They updated it with the latest firmware, but that did not solve the problem. The tech rode it around the parking lot came back and sat down ordered new fairing mount brackets and a new stereo. He says it looks like the mount brackets are broke and that caused the stereo to vibrate to the point something inside went belly up. He had the brackets in stock but not the stereo. He said if I could live with it a few more days he would get everything in stock and replace it all at once. I am pretty happy with them right now. I'll post again when everything is fixed.
 
This past weekend was the big trip we were planning. I left NJ, rode to Punxsutawney, Pa, then to Franklin WV and back to Punxsutawney. Monday morning we went out the the hotel garage and packed the bikes. As the other guys rolled out I was attempting to unlock my fork lock but it was jammed. Two of the guys with Road Kings came back in to give me a hand but to no avail, the lock was jammed. This was at 7am and we had 280 miles to ride before dark.

HOG was contacted and arranged a tow. In the mean time we all contacted our local dealers to see if there was a quick fix. All the service departments said they rarely see a lock jammed so the could offer no assistance. They had no idea how we could get the scoot back on the road without seeing a dealer. The flat bed shows up an hour later and then it's 20 miles to the closest dealer. We get to DuBois Harley-Davidson in DuBois, Pa at about 11:30.

The service manager Paul send out a service tech and his first reaction is how to get the bike off the truck. He goes back into the shop and returns with an allen wrench. We had taken off the flip-up lock cover so it is loose. He asks me to pull it up a bit more and he puts the allen wrench under the cover, gives it a few turn and pulls on the handlebars and straightens out the front wheel. He says, "that should make it easier to back down the ramp".

Well golly! He backs down and drives it into the shop. We found out after four and a half hours that it took 20 seconds to unlock the fork.

After a discussion with the service manager and the techs, we determined that there was no replacement part available so the tech offered to just remove the locking pin. That sounded good to me since I rarely locked the bike anyway.

We went for a quick lunch so they could complete the repair and complete the paperwork. I go in to see the manager and he says he has a problem, not a big one but a problem none the less. He can't find enough time for the repair to do any invoicing. Can you believe that!!! I can't! He asked that maybe I buy something from the store and tip the techs.

I did both with a smile and many thank yous and I would recommend this dealer to anyone in Western Pennsylvania. If you are ever traveling though that area, stop in and say HI. They have to be the nicest and concerned bunch of guys around.

My hat is off to Dubois Harley-Davidson for a job well done. Above and beyond the call of duty!

Just picked my bike up yesterday, after a new dyno tune. Jody York, the service manager, did an excellent job, as usual. Got the heat out of my '08, at idle, and gave it good clean, linear acceleration, with no decel pops, or any other problems. On the few occasions, that I have needed something done, that I didn't want to do myself, I have trusted their service. I feel I have always been treated fairly by them, and would recommend them to anyone.
 
:D Highmiles, I'm not sure if my Tilley's experience was good or bad.....:D LOL, just kidding, I stopped in for a break on a drive to see if they had a blue motorcycle, :s I ended up falling head over heels for the orange & creme deuce. Actually, they were great to work with since I did everything over the phone & Fed Ex. I sent my husband & his buddy down to pick the bike up 2 days later. Glad to hear they are still taking care of people.
 
Post the good dealers that you have had an experience with and what they did for you.

Warren H-D, Cortland, OH - hauled me in with a broken clutch cable, turned me around quickly and never charged for the tow. Also hauled me in when I screwed up a maintenance item. Didn't charge for that tow either and I bought the bike elsewhere. No problem mounting and balancing rubber I've bought elsewhere.

Brunswick H-D - Troy, NY - rolled downhill into their parking lot on a Sunday with a dead stator, dead bike. Owner lives on the premises and hauled me to a motel and came and got me in the morning. Had me on the road by 10 am and interceded with the MoCo to get me a $100 Goodwill fix on a recently out-of-warranty bike.

H-D of Macon, GA - turned me around quickly with a dead stator 5 months after the first episode. The MoCo picked up the entire out-of-warranty tab as the 2000 40-amp stators were discovered to have chronic problems.

Pikeville, KY H-D - after getting hauled in the middle of the night and leaving a voicemail telling 'em why my bike was sitting outside their shop after hours I was on the road by 10 am the next morning. The owner picked me up at the motel and made sure everything done in the shop was up to snuff before letting me leave.

Carleton's H-D - Mantua, OH - I've bought 2 or 3 bikes here due to their flexibility. No salesman, managers or other fluff, you deal with the person who has their name on the store. They've done numerous good turns for me although they know I usually buy parts and accessories from discounters online.

Incidently, none of these shops were new mega-boutiques. All have been in business with the same owners and most of the same employees for years and years. As my experiences with the newer giant mega-dealers have left me cold and unimpressed I hope wherever I am when I really need a dealer has a family-owned smaller shop nearby.

One more goodie I almost forget:

Tilley's H-D in Statesville, NC - When weather prevents me from riding from NE Ohio for Bikeweek I've hauled a bike in a truck and unloaded in Statesville. Tilley's not only allows me to leave my vehicle their, they've unloaded and loaded me, washed the winter salt and crud off my bike, alerted me to recalls or upgraded ECM downloads that were available and generally treated me like family. And never charged a dime for anything! Wish I lived closer so I could do all my business there!

It seems Don Tilley knows how to find good people. He is a long time racer and old school biker, who definitely tries to take care of his customers. Both of his dealerships seem to go the extra mile.
