When I plan a trip in and on Back Roads types, I look to see IF there are any Major Brands along the way,,,, Seeing none,,, and needing Some fuel and only need a little to complete the trip,
I CAN mix low grade in EARLY on the ride so as to Not have ALL Total low octane in the tank.
Knowing then I have Mixed enough to get me to another Full service type station with the Higher numbers, it will run fine until that next full fill.

I have the option of Sunoco 93 or a non ethenol 90....I've been alternating and notice no difference in performance. Which is better for my 2010 FXDC?

MY thinking would be the NON ethanol..
You should get Better mileage ...

I have Lost 4-6 miles per gal from the old days gas (non-ethanol), in my 4 wheelers since they put ethanol IN the gas. I know ethanol has to have a negative affect the HD.:newsmile055:

I always use premium grade, except for once when I ran low at the Petrified Forest in AZ. The station there only has regular. Interestingly, my mechanics raised an interesting point. That is, with fewer automobiles using premium, just how old is that gas we're pumping into our bikes? Does gas quality or octane diminish over time?

I ran a tank of 89 ethanol free gas on Sunday with no ill effects:s

All fuels deteriorate after a time. The premium grades at the pump are not that old in most cases. The newer bikes with the cats and o2 sensors and the better computer systems can adjust to variety of fuel grades, however the parameters are limited. There are o2 sensors with a wider range that can accomodate mechanical as well and software changes to a greater degree than stock and might help even a stock engine in situations where better fuels are not available.

In Australia we have a choice of 98, 95, 91with 10 percent ethanol
I always use the highest octane available which is usually 98

here's a question....I run my bike on 93 octane, but noticed a gas station in North Carolina about 30 minutes from Iron Horse Motorcycle Resort where I was staying had "Ethanol-Free" gasoline. I had just filled up not to long before I passed it, so I didn't get any. Just wondering what the benefits are.
