Here's my Trike build

Been installing a new Ultima Bullet style sliders and fork tubes in place of the OEM air shocks. Hard part was trying to remove all the original front end equipment without taking the entire inner fairing apart and out. The front sliders by Ultima were listed for a softail. I figured they should fit. Even though the trike is a touring model to begin with. They are now mounted in the Easy Steer triple trees. When I ordered the new front end. I asked for 2" over stock on the length of the fork tubes. Looks like the stock length tubes of a softail are longer than what I originally had on there, besides the extra 2" over. I wont know the looks of the final stance till I have it together and with the weight of the trike resting on the front end. But I did want to go for the ol school chopper look and so far it looks like I got that. I'll do pictures today and will post them soon. I also noticed that the front fender mounts are higher in relation to where they were on the stock front end. Looks like I'll be making special fender brackets to mount the stock front fender in it's respectable position.
When ever I do any build, custom or a stock add-on. I try and make sure I cover every aspect. Though this time, with this new length. It won't be till later today that I'll know if my brake lines and front axle speedometer cable is long enough for my custom application.

Update: I had to order new extended lower front brake lines and a speedo cable. Also,... the front fender will not mount to the mounts on the sliders. I plan on removing the fender's mounting brackets. I'll be taking them to a custom hot rod shop I know of and have them duplicate the brackets out of 1/4" plate aluminum. The new brackets will be flat, not contoured and shaped like the OEM fender brackets.

I finally got the front end's new sliders and fork tubes on the trike. Really puts the front wheel out there. My wheel base is longer now. With the front end out there. I can easily work on the front of the engine/ oil cooler area with ease.

The sliders on this Ultima front end were really thought out. The axle ends are enclosed as seen in the next picture.

Since this is a softail front end. The mounting brackets for the front fender allows for the builder to invert them if needed for custom fender mounting. It just didnt work for the OEM touring model fender. I had to remove the OEM fender brackets. I had to use an xacto blade to cut the painted surface around the factory rivets. This will prevent the painted surface from cracking or chipping when removing the rivets.

Inside the fender I used a grinder to remove the spot welds on the ends of the rivets.

The holes that are present will be used for the new fender mounting I'm in the process of making.

To make sure the fender would set right over the tire while I figured out it's new mounting brackets. I used a rubber hose taped around the tire's circumference.

I set the fender on over the tire with the hose underneath and adjusted it's stance, while looking at it from different views.

Instead of going with the idea of an aluminum flat stock for the fender brackets as mentioned before. I used some of the existing holes with SS button head bolts and chrome spacers I made from a damaged front bumper tubing found usually on the front of a touring glide fender. Using a tubing cutter, this allowed me to make just what I needed. The red arrow points out one of the spacers.

For the remaining holes. I have chrome points to place in there. I used sealing washers. These washers have a neoprene rubber bonded to the washer and will prevent the painted surface around the holes from cracking when I tighten them.

Im not ready to paint the trike. So this was a tasteful way to take care of the extra holes.

Will do. I have the older style fairing. The instrument cluster covers part of the radio. So I cant install it on there. Like it was designed for the newer models There's a chance that I may be able to install it in there anyways. Ill take pictures in case it does allow an enough clearance to mount it under the fairing. This way anyone that considers doing the same. Will know it can be done. If not I'll have to install the amp in the cargo area. I hoping I don't have to go that route. Will have to extend a lot of wires.

zoood

Update: I managed to actually get that amp to just fit inside and under the batwing fairing.

I know it looks messy in there. But I did manage to move wires around and tighten up the unsightly bird's nest after I installed the amplifier.

1st I had to find or make a bracket that the Amp would rest upon.
Luckily for me I did find one.

I attached the bracket with the bolt that's used for securing the back of the radio to it's mounting bracket.

I used micro sized office binder clips for clamps to hold the rubber "U" channel in place while the glue dried. This was to ensure that the amp would be resting against a rubber bumper while being held in it's place.

This picture shows it's final mounting position. I'll post more pictures of this install after I receive and install the new lengthened speedo cable.

I did do a sound test and I was amazed at the sound quality I have on my trike now. That amp made one heck of a difference.

Hey all,

This is a ongoing build that zoood is preforming and as a professional courtesy I would like to ask that you not post any pics of other trikes or other non-related material to his trike build here. If you want to start a new thread , please feel free to do so.

Thanks for understanding!

Randy

Good Job, you are taking your time and doing a nice job and having the pictures will be nice to look back on, Capital Jack burned up from the sun in Key West OUCH LOL:p

Amp install continues:
Mounting the amp at an angle was actually the only way to make it fit. Plus this mount allows for air circulation around the amplifier. Since my install is on a 1993 EGC. The instrument cluster is one bulky unit and other than fitting the amp against this. The speedometer cable's hook up and routing was a major concern.

The arrows below point to the routing and hook-up with the speedometer cable. It worked perfectly. Nothing binding.

Take notice to the Hog Tunes amp pictured below. It has a recessed troth along it's length. It's perfect for routing additional wires and also provides a place for my short rubber radio antenna.

I just recently came up with another Idea for my build. I was looking at Corbin's full chin spoiler. I'd have to modify a lot of it to have it incorporate the Ultra Cool Oil Cooler I have installed on my trike. I just dont care for the look of this section on my trike no more. I plan on making a fiber glass mold to allow a nice smoothed finished spoiler for my 2 front frame tubes from the underside of the engine crash guard down to the inside base of my hard lowers. Corbin's style is nice, but it doesn't allow for the use of my hard lowers.

Making this spoiler, isnt as easy as just cutting some metal to size. The metal will be the base for the the modeling clay i plan to mold to it, till I get the flowing shape I'm after.

I've experience working with the clay. For an example. Here's some pictures of a seat I molded and the finished product.

I didn't upholster it. I just designed the covering for a rider that is a surfer. Those are surfer's crosses butted together to form that pattern.

As always,... I'll do pictures of the build.
