Finally got a chance to work on my trike build again. One of the first things to do was to change the tone/pitch of the exhaust sound. Im running HP khrome werks 3 piece slip-on mufflers. The sound is awesome and is a real head turner. Unfortunately, at 70 mph continuously. There's a resonating sound that bothers Me and the Mrs. After a few hours of this, results in the next few days that anyone I listen too. Sounds like the munchkins on the wizard of oz!
Without changing the mufflers. I added a product called Quiet Riot. Their designed for straight pipes. But I didnt feel like gutting my mufflers. So I just added them anyways. What the quiet riots do to straight pipes. It adds torque and more HP to your mid range. Ive already 120lbs of torque and 125+ HP. So even if it didnt add anything to it. Im fine with the results. It did however do what I wanted. It toned it down to where it's not ear piercing. A long run will let me know if it stopped the resonation that seems to bother my ears. And NO, I refuse to wear ear plugs!
They are very easy to install and they fit perfectly within the exhaust pipe.
In the center there's a threaded rod with a compression spring and a nut on it's end. I didnt mess with the setting. On the end that faces that round section. There's a large steel ball that as you accelerate. That ball presses against that spring, coming away from the round disc. Looks like I can mess with the tension springs adjustment by loosening or tightening the nut at the end of the threaded rod. I'll check with the manufacturer just in case I decide to start experimenting with it.
There's a few more things that I will be doing to my build and adding to this thread. So needless to say,.... the build continues.
