Motorcycle Adventure, Day 15
Greetings from Half Moon Bay, California! Another great day on the road! I bid Brantley farewell at 0800 and headed south to meet JimB at Santa Maria Harley Davidson. I can’t thank Brantley enough for his hospitality, cooking and tour guiding. It was an exceptional visit and I thoroughly enjoyed myself at his beautiful house. It was an absolute pleasure to meet JimB and his great friends at the Harley shop, they couldn’t have been nicer. Jim and I had a great chat and he was kind enough to give me a brand new map of California which has already come in handy. I have been navigating off an atlas that I tear the pages out of and jam between the seat and gas tank. Not very high tech, but it has worked for well over four thousand miles, 4742 to be precise. 291.7 miles today along the California Coast. More spectacular scenery. I have plotted my route on a U.S. map and I must say it looks pretty impressive thus far. I followed JimB south on 101 for about five miles to see a flower farm which he thought would make a nice picture. He was right! I have never seen a flower farm before. It was cool all day until I reached Monterey, CA, At that point it turned downright cold and I pulled over and added my repertoire of gear to keep me warm. I went through Big Sur and although the scenery was great, there were to many people for my liking, so I didn’t stay in town long. Once I got out of town the wind was as strong as any I have ever had the misfortune to ride in. It was to the point of being hazardous, so I reduced my speed accordingly and finally it tapered off. I’ll cross the Golden Gate bridge tomorrow morning and head up 101 to Petaluma and cut across to Hwy 1 and hug the coast toward Oregon. JimB said this was the best route and I sure appreciate his knowledge of the area to enhance the scenic beauty of the trip. Well, I’ll be back tomorrow with an update from California. Pictures to follow.
P.S. I really appreciate all the kind words regarding this adventure. I wish everyone could see what I have been fortunate enough to see.
