Motorcycle Adventure, Day 20

A quick update before I get on the road this morning. I woke up at 0515 and made some coffee. I looked out the window and look what I saw!

This is Mount Clark in Washington as seen from my motel window at 0530.

Mount Hood, as seen from my motel window at 0530.

Hobbit, if I understand which picture you are referring to, (the one before the car fire) that is Mount Hood taken from the timberline lodge. On the far left there are people, but they are difficult to see unless one knows they are there. Thiis ain't a bad view to wake up to! Doesn't look like any rain in the near future either.

That's exactly what my bike feels like at the stop light now that it's summer on the Gulf Coast and temperatures are near 100 everyday.

Man Pru, you sure are hard on the "I Wish I Was There" thoughts, they won't stop. As many have said, thanks for such excellent reporting from the road! Ride safe and keep your guardian angel on your shoulder!

I must still be half asleep! I don't know where I came up with Mount Clark from; it is Mount Adams! Doing some very crude calculations, Mount Hood is approximately 55 miles away, as the crow flies and Mount Adams is approximately 40 miles away as the crow flies.

Outstanding views Pru. Good to see you are still doing good after the quick chat on Facebook. Keep riding safe and keept the shiny side up.

I saw your link in your Facebook posts. Impressive web site Pru.

Deuce, I'm glad you found the link in facebook. I sent Glider a private message this morning asking him if I could post a link to the web page my computer wizard brother in law made up as he was following my posts. At 1630 I checked into a motel in Orofino, ID and found a message from Glider saying it was ok to post the link, but add that he had authorized it, so another moderator would not remove it. You have beat me to posting it, but it has been approved. For anyone else that has been following this adventure feel free to check out the link Deuce posted. I'm not sure I know how to do it without losing this text. I'll post todays adventure after I get some chow and a frosty malt throat dust remover.

Motorcycle Adventure, Day 20

I took my sweet time getting on the road this morning. I kept looking out the window and staring at Mount Hood and Mound Adams. By 0900 I was underway. The weather was made for motorcycle riding. Not to hot, not to cold; absolutely perfect and not a cloud in the sky. No chaps, light gloves, no jacket liner; perfect! I rode on the Columbia Rive Gorge Hwy for 67 miles before I was passed by a van that didn’t like me going 5 mph below the speed limit. The speed limit was 65, but the geezer glide purrs along perfectly at 2.5K RPM which equates to multiples of ten, so that’s what I was doing. More spectacular sights. I’m going to have to use a thesaurus to quit using the same words. As I was on the north side of the gorge, it was a two lane highway with perfect asphalt. I could see all the tractor trailers and cars across the river. Thank goodness I didn’t have to deal with them. I had to cross back into Oregon to proceed towards Lewiston, ID. When I entered back into Washington, the temperature instantly went up 20 degrees. By then it was downright hot so I stopped for fuel in Touché, WA and stowed the leather jacket, doused in sun block and put the cooling vest on. That thing has been a lifesaver. I have never seen such green crop fields as I saw in eastern WA on Hwy 12. They went on for miles and although that kind of scenery does not appeal to everyone, I love it. I am not very far into Idaho, but if what I have seen thus far is any indication, it is going to require ice pads on my eyes. I spoke to three older guys on KTM’s at the motel and they said I ain’t seen nothing yet. They have all been to the great American motorcycle roads for decades and claim Idaho is the best place to ride. Pictures to follow.
