Motorcycle Adventure, Day 21
First of all, let me say how much I appreciate the comments so many HDT members have made regarding this adventure. The exceptional website some of you have visited was done by my computer wizard brother in law and HDT member, Dave Pettigrew. As you will recall, he and my sister were the first stop on this trip in order that I receive some schooling on operating this mini computer which has made these posts possible. I gave Dave my password to access my pictures thinking he was going to tweak them by the time I got home. Little did I know he was going to create such a masterpiece. I claim no credit whatsoever for what he has done and really appreciate the significant time he must expend keeping it updated as fast as I make the daily post.
I spent a restful night at the White Pine Motel in Orofino, ID. I was up at 0445 and headed east by 0610. At 0730 I stopped along side the Clearwater River and put on a sweat shirt, balaclava, glove liners etc. The sky was crystal clear blue and it was pretty cool out. The extra clothing made it perfect riding weather. I rode at least 80 miles in pristine wilderness, the likes of which I have ever seen. At 0930 I stopped at beautiful Locsa Lodge (I’ll have to check my spelling) on Hwy 12 not far from the Montana border to get fuel and breakfast. When I hit Hwy 93, I went north through Lolo to Missoula to visit a motorcycle shop. I should have gone directly south because I ended up fighting city traffic and the temperature on the bank sign said 84. With all my clothing on, it felt like 100. It was a waste of almost two hours, but I learned a lesson again. Stay away from big cities. The ride south on Hwy 93 through Darby was the worst scenery and roadway so far on this trip. Shortly thereafter, it couldn’t have been better and made up for what I had just tolerated. I rode for more than 11.5 hours and covered 398.6 miles today; 6608 grand total, if my math is correct. Stopping to take pictures eats up a lot of time, but I think it is worth it in the long run. I’m not sure I will ever get such an opportunity again, therefore I don’t want to squander it now. Enough yapping! Pictures to follow.
