Used the Fram filter for years on the EVO, but have been using the HD filter on the new bike and will probably continue to do so.
 
The only dealer in the area didn't have any chrome filters so I went with the K&N, it was said that they are built to OEM specs, I especialy like the nut on the end.

Harley filter is a 5micron filter and the K&N is 15micron,I would stick to the Harley filter:s
 
I'm on my third oil change on my Ultra and until I can find actual filtration performance specs from the Harley filter to compare to others, I'm using the black HD SuperPremium5 filter; Can't see it anyway so why pay for chrome.

I'd emailed Champion Labs who make the filter for Harley, but due to it being proprietary info they couldn't give me the specs for the HD.
 
Always use the HD 5 micron. Cheap insurance. Plus buy them by the case at a discount. The chrome ones don't make it run any better and can't see em unless I'm on my knees. Sling M1vt20/50. Started using that in my 90 Ultra.

On my EVO I used AC Delco everytime... on my twin cam I just switched to the AMSOIL. Interestingly enough I installed the oil cooler adapter and it made the stock harley filter barely fit, the amsoil filter is a bit shorter and fits! I do like the K&P Filter and will consider it...
 
$14.65 at the dealer last weekend, quick google on part 63798-99a and I find 11.45 Lets check black. google has them for under $10 in some places.

Im going black 63731-99A HD.. Cant see the filter on a ultra anyway.

( note had ok luck with wix on heritage, but never let the oil get dirty ).
 
hd just cuz they are easier to get.

dont know of anywhere that carries the k n, i would use them cuz of the nifty nut on it
 
I change oil and Harley black filter 1000 mile intervals Keep her clean and lubed
