I just switched from Castrol 75-90 to Amsoil 75-110 in the tranny. I've gone to Amsoil in all 3 holes just to try them out, 20w-50 engine and Super Shift in the primary. Only got a few hundred miles so far seems good, shifts easy no problem finding neutral, only 40 degrees out, so engine's running cool too. lol
I did the 5000 mile service on my bike today. I went ahead and changed out the spectro in the transmission with some fresh spectro. The oil that I replaced looked as good as new. Should I change the transmission oil every time I change the engine oil, or follow the maintenance schedule in the book?
I did the trans, primary and engine with a filter at 2500 miles. It's overkill but that's the way I like it. It's only an extra quart in the trans and just a bit more in the primary for piece of mind.
The trans will not look dirty like the engine oil because there is no combustion to contaminate the oil like in the engine. The sheering of the gears will take it's toll on the oil in any case and diminish the effectiveness of the oil over time.
Just changed out to Spectro 6 speed and was amazed at the difference. Smother shifts, and almost no 4th gear whine. Tried all kinds and this is the best ever used in Evo 5 speed.
Thanks to both glider and Smitty! Just had the 1000 mile check and dyno done. On the way home I noticed that it was hard to shift from first to second without finding neutral thanks to the SE synthetic in all 3 holes. When I wanted to find neutral, well that's a long story. Anyway, went to the fine folks at Mischlers and picked up the Spectro 6 Speed 75w140. Shifts are smooth and quiet and finding neutral is a snap. I'm so impressed I think I'll give their other fluids a try after another 3000!
